Party season is here! We've curated a great case of awesome drops that will be go down a treat at any festive soiree. We like to call these 'crowd pleaser', a great mix of reds and whites that are hard not to love...
THE WHITES:
Calusari Pinot Grigio, Romania : We love this Pinot Grigio for it's abundance of juicy ripe fruit and concentration, rare for a wine of this price point. Calusari Pinot Grigio is one such example, expressive on the nose with opulent aromas of grapefruit and peach. Clean and crisp on the palate with an abundance of melon, apples and citrus with a mouth-watering finish.
The Next Big Thing Chardonnay, Barossa Valley, Australia: The Next Big Thing Chardonnay from Smalltown Vineyards/Magpie Estate, has the faintest whiff of biscuity oak and this bright, tangy Barossa Chardonnay is an absolute delight. It has that classical Barossa charm, elegance, poise, tang and just a kiss of oak adding a hint of nuttiness and complexity.
Entero Old Vine Macabeo, Manchuela, Spain: An organically produced Macabeo from the little known region of Manchuela in the east of the provinces of Albacete and Cuenca between the valleys of the Rivers Júcar and Cabriel. The nose has bright citrus orange blossom and a hint of papaya. The palate clean is of concentrated ripe citrus with a hint of key lime. Awesome value for money
THE REDS:
Wild & Wilder The Unforgettable Grenache: The Unforgettable is a generous blend of 3 varieties, all of whom are long-term friends that know the benefits of teamwork. Working in cahoots, they produce a wine with succulent red berry fruit with hints of spice and chocolate. A clever, friendly wine that is indeed truly Unforgettable.
Vila Elena 'Pacheco' GSM, Jumilla, Spain: Widely considered to be one of the best wineries in Jumilla, Viña Elena is very much a family affair with Elena Pacheco at the helm supported ably by her mother, sisters and children. 100% organic Monastrell this wine is, dark red-maroon in colour. Red berry aromas on the nose, with a light touch of balsamic. Balanced, full-bodied, fresh wine enhanced by seasoned tannins and the reoccurring traces of ripe fruit.
Les Beaux Brins, Ventoux Rouge AOP, Southern Rhône, France, 2022: A lovely spicy little Cote du Rhone. This very approachable Ventoux has a fresh, complex and expressive nose of cherries and gooseberries. A sensuous mouth accompanied by silky tannins. The wine is well balanced with a very enjoyable fresh finish to it.
