Gavi di Gavi … so good they named it twice! Well, sort of, anyway. The name refers both to the name of the wine (Gavi) and the area of northern Italy where it is made (also Gavi).
Simple, right? Gavi is one of the real unsung heroes of Italian white wines. It is made from the Cortese grape, which is widely acknowledged as Piedmont’s greatest white grape and produces wines which are refreshing, lime-scented, peachy and aromatic. It’s an amazing match with pretty much any light style of Italian food you’d care to name, from freshly caught seafood to authentic carbonara.
This Gavi di Gavi from Cantina Gemma is quintessential Gavi (could we SAY Gavi any more times!?) with delicate notes of white flowers, green pear and lime zest on the nose. The palate is peachy perfect, lemon and crisp green apple notes lifted by cheerfully refreshing acidity and minerality.
