This is a wine that makes we realise why I ended up follow this career path, it is so characterful, pure and honest! Beaming with personality and craftsmanship....stunning! High toned black fruit, morello cherry, violet, gravel, spice, the palate is abundant with fruit, fine tannins and lovely perfumed finish.
Step aside Nebbiolo because Barbera is taking the stage and absolutely rock it :) Made from old vines in the area of Barolo, 86 years old in one plot of Magliano Alfieri, località San Bernardo, 290m, and 45 - 80 year old vines in Roddi 200-250m this is so concentrated and layered, super gorgeous. It drinks beautiful now but will certainly hang out in the cellar and for a few years. Fuller in aroma and fruit, but so together and not as richly wooded as some are.
This is probably the best Barbera I've ever had. Drink this now, too good to wait!

Producer
In Piedmont, Gian Luca Colombo is the guy that everyone talks about. The architect of the neo-classical style of Barolo focusing on wines with real finesse: silky, elegant, perfumed, fine fruit, with gentler tannins, less wood and extraction, Colombo is the guy that everyone wants advice from. He won the Gambelli award for best young winemaker in Italy, and he works alongside a winemaker who is a consultant in Barbaresco, who makes the wine at esteemed Bruno Giacosa. They taste together, and talk together. The point is here is, that anything exciting happening in Barolo and Barbaresco, Gian Luca is probably aware of, and likely to be involved with. Gian Luca has a very small production of his own, and we are thrilled to have our hands on these wines.
