We are in love with this line up! Winter whites need a little more oomph then there summertime counterparts, not overly oaked or heavy, just more complex, a little rounder and more bold in personality. These wines are both crowdpleasing, impressive and perfectly suited to the Christmas season and heartier winter dishes!
The line up:
Monstable Chardonnay Pays D'Oc, France: This beautifully textured Chardonnay from the Pays D'Oc region is created with judicious use of French oak staves on 20% of the wine for complexity and texture, with the remainder retaining freshness in stainless steel. Very aromatic, it shows yellow fruits and white flowers with just the faintest hint of vanilla.
Wildeberg 'Terroirs' Chenin Blanc, Western Cape, SA: From an exceptional site in Franschoek, old bush vine Chenin Blanc that punches way above it's price tag. A broad, savoury, complex nose with ripe stonefruit and citrus, saffron and honey. Generous and textural with apricot, green plum and grapefruit, the richness of fruit balanced by tangy freshness and a taut, mineral seam on the long, focused finish.
Mont Rocher, Viognier, Vieilles Vignes, IGP Pays d'Oc, France: An amazing value fantastic wine from Pays d'Oc. There are wonderful aromas of baked apricot and a little summer floral element. The palate is rich and mouth enveloping yet maintains a core freshness and is dry and thirst quenching. In summary old vine viognier at an irresistible price point.
